Frequently Asked Questions For Schools

Accreditation is a system or process for providing public confidence and a tool for improvement used by educational institutions. It is process that ensures the school has been reviewed in terms of its academics, recruiting, admissions, faculty, and more. It signals students that the institution will provide quality education and continuously work to improve its overall effectiveness and student outcomes. When you see that an institution is accredited by a recognized authority, you can be sure of its integrity and commitment to students.

  1. A school needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide educational service that meets  and exceeds the interested parties requirements with a view to provide holistic education and facilitate overall development of students
  2. Aims to enhance interested party satisfaction through the effective application of process approach for continual improvement of the system.

It has been developed with a view to define and implement systems to

  1. Provide educational services that aim to achieve/enhance level of interested parties.
  2. Provide a basis for assessing and where required, rating the effectiveness of an educational management system
  3. Develop quality consciousness interested parties involved in school activities.

Q. Differentiate between affiliation, certification and accreditation?

Affiliation – It is partnership between two or more parties

Certification – It refers to the confirmation of certain characteristics of an object, person or organization

Accreditation – It is a process in which certification of competency, authority or credibility is presented

Accreditation is not for a specific period of time but is a continuing relationship that is subject to periodic review. Comprehensive evaluations, including site visits by a team of empanelled NABET assessors, takes place annually. The Standards for Accreditation guide all decisions.

The school applies to NABET with requisite documents for a desk review. Only after comprehensive review, on-site evaluation and the subsequent satisfactory closure of the observations and the approval of the school accreditation committee, accreditation is granted. The length of time depends on a number of factors, including how long the institution has been in operation and the results of its on-site evaluations.

One way of gauging the quality of a private school is through the school’s accreditation. It is important  to know something about the school litself.

An accrediting organization that requires its schools to uphold standards comparable to state standards may apply for recognition. These standards include, but are not limited to, consideration of the school’s goals and objectives; compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory statutes; effective administration and governance; the teaching of a balanced curriculum; implementation of personnel practices which ensure hiring qualified instructional leaders with college degrees; student achievement; and indicator-based quality of learning.

Accredited schools usually have a higher quality curriculum and more qualified teachers. Grades and courses completed at accredited private schools are accepted in public schools if you ever wish to transfer your child. In addition, if your child intends to seek admission to a college or university, a diploma from a non-accredited high school may not be recognized for meeting admission requirements.
